Evidence and provenance

What is it?

The source support and custody trail behind each selected Assertion.

Evidence identifies the source location that supports an Assertion. Provenance records where that source came from and how it entered the governed system.

Inspect groups evidence by source document so the path from document to selected Assertion remains visible.

Organizational Reality

Different documents appear to support different answers. Each contains part of the truth.

The organization struggles to determine what should actually govern because the support exists, but it is disconnected from the conclusion people are trying to use.

Why it happens

This commonly happens because evidence is stored near documents while decisions happen elsewhere. The support may exist, but it is not attached to the conclusion when people need it.
