Provenance begins at the source
What is it?
SALARA keeps track of where organizational knowledge came from before governance begins.
Provenance begins when a Knowledge Source is identified. The organization should know what source was provided, who approved it, and what boundary it belongs to.
Source provenance is not a final answer. It is the starting record that lets later governance remain inspectable.
Organizational Reality
A department shares a policy extract in a slide deck. Months later, someone copies the extract into a checklist. Later still, the checklist becomes the answer people trust.
By then, nobody is sure where the wording came from, who approved the original source, or whether the checklist still reflects the policy.
Why it happens
This commonly happens because knowledge is copied for convenience. Each copy may help someone work faster, but the chain back to the source weakens.
How it relates
- SourceWhere knowledge begins.
- CustodyWho provided and approved it.
- TraceHow later intelligence points back.
Provenance begins before the first Assertion exists.
