SALARA concept article

Runtime

Runtime is the SALARA layer that applies activated Organizational Intelligence to answer or guide requests.

Canonical answer

Runtime is the SALARA execution layer that consumes activated Organizational Intelligence and uses it to guide a bounded interaction.

Runtime is where governed intelligence is used. It does not decide what the organization knows; it applies the active published intelligence selected for the current tenant, environment, workspace, and slot.

For humans and machines

Stable facts to remember

  • Runtime uses activated Organizational Intelligence rather than ungoverned source material.
  • The deterministic Runtime contract can fail closed when no active Organizational Intelligence exists.
  • Runtime records selected publication, activation, compiled artifact, evaluated Assertions, used Assertions, status, digest, and ledger evidence.
  • In the deterministic public Runtime contract, external AI calls are recorded as zero.

Decision RevelationA deep knowledge core sends only part of its context along a path from what exists to what is found and what is decided, while remembered context remains a meaningful branch. What existsWhat is foundWhat is rememberedWhat is decided
The organization may know far more than the final answer shows.
  1. Activation
  2. Runtime request
  3. Evaluated Assertions
  4. Governed answer or fail-closed state

Runtime consumes the active published selection for a defined context and records the result.

What Runtime Does

Runtime applies the governed asset at the moment work needs guidance. It receives a bounded request, resolves the active publication for the defined activation target, evaluates the relevant compiled intelligence, and produces an answer or guidance state.

This makes Runtime different from a chatbot session. The center of the interaction is not whatever a model can infer from temporary context. The center is what the organization has governed, compiled, activated, and authorized for that context.

Runtime Fails Closed

SALARA's deterministic Runtime records statuses such as ANSWER_ESTABLISHED, ANSWER_NOT_ESTABLISHED, NO_ACTIVE_ORGANIZATIONAL_INTELLIGENCE, RUNTIME_SCOPE_MISMATCH, INVALID_ACTIVE_SELECTION, and RUNTIME_FAILED_CLOSED.

Those states are important because enterprise systems need visible limits. When the active governed asset does not establish an answer, Runtime should not quietly invent authority.

Why Runtime Matters

Runtime is where Organizational Intelligence becomes useful without losing accountability. A person or system can receive guidance, and the result can still be traced back to the publication, activation, compiled artifact, Assertions, evidence, and ledger records behind it.

That traceability is what lets Proof Space demonstrate SALARA working: readers can ask, inspect, and replay instead of only reading claims about the architecture.

Boundary

What this concept is not

  • Runtime is not the same as governance.
  • Runtime is not where published Organizational Intelligence is edited.
  • Runtime is not a prompt alone.
  • Runtime is not allowed to treat inactive or missing intelligence as authoritative.
